A useful sweater quotation depends on more than a sketch. Quantity, yarn, gauge, construction, finishing, labels and delivery terms all affect cost and timing. Sharing these details early helps a manufacturer give a realistic answer and reduces revisions later.

Custom sweater sample development at Yushengda

What determines sweater MOQ?

MOQ is influenced by yarn minimums, dye lots, knitting setup, finishing batches, label production and packaging. A simple stock-yarn pullover may support a lower quantity than a custom-dyed, multi-color or specialty-finished design.

Yushengda’s MOQ starts from 100 pieces per color for suitable custom developments. If a collection contains several styles, sharing yarns or trims may improve purchasing efficiency, but each design still needs to be reviewed individually.

What should be included in a sampling request?

A complete request should include a tech pack or clear sketch, target measurements, yarn or fiber preference, color references, artwork, gauge direction, finishing requirements and estimated order quantity. If some details are not available, a reference garment or images can be used for an initial feasibility discussion.

Our sample fee starts from US$30 and is refundable when the corresponding order reaches 100 pieces. Typical sampling time is 7–15 working days, depending on yarn sourcing, stitch tests and finishing trials. Complex jacquard, special washing or repeated color adjustments may require additional time.

How long does bulk production take?

Bulk production normally takes 25–45 days from the day the deposit is received. The final schedule depends on yarn availability, order size, color count, construction and finishing. Before confirming an urgent delivery date, buyers should also allow time for sample approval, payment, inspection and transport.

A production plan generally covers yarn preparation, knitting, linking, washing or special finishing, measurement checks, final inspection, packing and shipment. Clear approval deadlines from the buyer help keep the schedule on track.

Payment, inspection and shipping

Our normal payment terms are 30% deposit and 70% balance paid before shipment. We support EXW, FOB and DDP arrangements and accept customer-nominated third-party inspection. Labels, hangtags and packaging can be developed according to the confirmed requirements.

Information that improves quotation accuracy

  • Product type and reference images
  • Fiber composition and target handfeel
  • Gauge, stitch or construction details
  • Quantity per style and per color
  • Size range and measurement chart
  • Special wash, spray dye, tie dye or other finish
  • Labels, packaging and delivery destination
  • Target price and required delivery date

A low quotation that excludes essential development steps can become expensive later. The more useful comparison is whether the supplier understands the design, explains the risks and provides a workable path from sample to bulk production.

What to confirm before paying the sample fee

Treat the published starting fee and lead time as an opening reference, not a complete development contract. Ask for a written sampling scope tied to your style revision. The checklist below is a buyer recommendation; it does not add services to Yushengda's confirmed offer.

QuestionWhat the written reply should resolve
What will I receive?Swatch or complete garment, number of pieces, size, color and finish
Which material is being used?Intended bulk yarn or an identified temporary substitute
What happens if changes are needed?Included revisions, separately charged design changes and approval route
What does the fee exclude?Courier, special trials, artwork, trims or testing if not included
How is the refund handled?Qualifying corresponding order, eligible fee and timing or credit method

Check color quantities before adding up the order

Illustrative planning example, not an actual quotation: a 200-piece style split into two colors of 100 pieces meets a 100-piece-per-color quantity threshold. The same total split into four colors of 50 pieces does not. Neither scenario alone confirms feasibility: yarn, finish and other project conditions still require review. Ask whether the proposed size mix can be accommodated instead of assuming every size has its own minimum.

Put dates beside the different kinds of lead time

Request separate dates for sample readiness, courier arrival, buyer feedback, bulk readiness and delivery to your warehouse. The published sampling estimate uses working days; do not silently convert it to calendar days or add it to a bulk estimate without agreeing how the calendar is counted. A new yarn choice, design revision or delayed approval requires an updated schedule. A factory-ready date is not a warehouse-arrival guarantee.

Keep the accepted scope with the quotation and order paperwork. The U.S. International Trade Administration's pro forma invoice guidance describes documenting price, terms and product information before shipment. For a sweater development, also attach the relevant style revision so the commercial document identifies the product being discussed.
